FAIR - they're great ...

Coming to the Griffith Careers Fairs? If so, read on.
As you'll know, Fairs this year are scheduled as follows:
- Tuesday 13 March, Nathan Campus, Brisbane
- Thursday 15 March, Gold Coast Campus, Southport
Interest in the Fairs is strong with most spaces now booked. Due to a large refurbishment of the Nathan campus which has resulted in a new Campus Heart, the layout of the Nathan fair will be a little different this year. Access to the site will be different from previous years too, but we will send exhibitors a map and information before the event and provide lots of signage around campus on the day.
The good news is that the roadworks at the Gold Coast campus (especially as a result of the new and exciting Gold Coast University Hospital) have largely been completed and even though there is still construction activity around the precinct, the campus itself is looking great. Being engaged in 2012 ...
"Career engagement" - it's a vital concept whether you're employing graduates or senior staff, or assisting students to develop their careers. Considered from an employer perspective, career engagement is a win-win as engaged staff are more satisfied at work and perform better in their roles. We're constantly expanding our knowledge on career engagement to assist Griffith students and graduates. Here, we've compiled the latest thinking on the subject to assist you in recruiting and leading staff in your organisation.

Engaging careers
A new model of career engagement by Neault and Pickerall could prove a useful tool for recruiters, managers (as well as career counsellors) to guide not only job selection and recruitment but also to support staff and assist with role development. This elegant model shows that best performance comes from matching challenge with capacity. Sound simple? Well it is, but bear in mind that jobs and people change. A person can be overwhelmed when starting a new job, but may become bored in the same job as their capacity increases. The model helps guide discussions to pinpoint ways to maximise career engagement. Read more

Seeking host employers for Stepping Into ....
Interested in promoting a fair go for all? Australian Network on Disability is seeking expressions of interest from members interested in participating as host employers in the Stepping into... internship program in June / July 2012.
Remember, it's not just about the students you help - organisations also benefit. Participating in Stepping into... will help to develop a workplace culture that values diversity and promotes the employment of people with disabilities. Organisations will benefit by being able to identify and eliminate some of the barriers faced by people with disabilities within organisations and by breaking down the myths and stereotypes often associated with people with disabilities in the workplace.
If you're interested in participating, please contact Caroline Kwong caroline.kwong@and.org.au by the end of February.
Campus development and renewal
Griffith is currently undergoing an array of development and renewal projects accross its campuses. At Nathan, the new Campus Heart and Plaza, opening shortly will provide a fantastic space for student activities, markets and campus events. At Gold Coast, new developments including the Griffith Health Centre and International Building are under construction to provide space for the growing Gold Coast student community. Getting there - where ...
Mentoring is a well known strategy for self-development, career development and skill development where an experienced professional offers knowledge, insight and resources to a mentee.
It's recruitment time again ... no, not employees; we're recruiting mentors and students into the Griffith Industry Mentoring Program! The Program is widely recognised by Queensland employers as an innovative and highly successful initiative for launching soon-to-be Griffith graduates into their future careers. Conducted since 1994, the Program this year will involve more than 400 participants from a range of professional fields. Recruitment and matching of mentors and students happens between March and June when undergraduate students who have completed 80 credit points and postgraduate students in any year are linked with experienced professionals from similar career fields. The program commences formally in late July with mentoring taking place during the second half of the year . Read more
